From Upper Limit to Papillon Helicopters

Troy Barnum's journey from Upper Limit to +Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters

It can still be hard for Troy Barnum to believe that he's a pilot. When he's in the air and observing the vast scenery below, it can all be a bit surreal to him. Having graduated from Boise State University in Idaho with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, the next step in his career brought him to flight school, with the support of his wife and family. Upon completing flight school, he became a flight instructor with Upper Limit, helping other students pursue their passions.

After instructing other students at Upper Limit, he took his first job flying tours in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The opportunity showed Troy just how diverse flying helicopters can be. "Helicopters are different from airplanes, you get to do random things like drop Easter eggs and golf balls, that makes flying helicopters a lot of fun," he says about his time in South Carolina.

Troy's latest gig is flying for +Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters out of Las Vegas, Nevada, to give tours of the Grand Canyon by air. "I look forward to continuing my progression in learning new things. The Grand Canyon is one of the seven wonders in the world and I get to fly it everyday."

The Story of Mike Ridgeway

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them

One of the biggest sacrifices anyone can make is to join the military to serve their country. But going back to school and training for a dangerous job, well, that's no small task either. Michael Ridgeway, a 36-year-old Army veteran did exactly that though. He took a chance to enter a new career that would change his life forever.

"I had seen Upper Limit billboards in Fayetteville, North Carolina and I called them," Mike recalls. After joining the Upper Limit program to become a helicopter pilot, Mike was more determined than ever to succeed. "I tried joining the ranks in the military aviation field but due to medical reasons resulting from previous deployments I didn't qualify." Now, with the opportunity to follow his dreams, he wasn't going to back away from the challenge.

There's more to becoming a pilot than cracking open textbooks. There is hands on training, tough requirements, and unseen obstacles both in the air and on the ground. But with the right attitude, Mike is breaking down obstacles and is nearly ready to enter the field of his dream job.

The Jeff Vogel Story

It's intimidating to some, but a thrill for him. The story of pilot, Jeff Vogel

Upper Limit Aviation pilot, Jeff Vogel

From when he was young, Jeff Vogel knew what he wanted to do with his life: fly. Having grown up with aviation in his family, the young pilot knew that that's what his career would be by the time he was 13. "When I was 13 I did my first intro flight lesson in a Cessna 172 and I just remember days and weeks going by and I could not stop smiling," says Jeff.

It's not everyday that you come across pilots with such a passion for flying. To some it's just a job, but to the best pilots it becomes something more; it becomes part of your life. Jeff's story is an inspirational one to those of us who have always been looking towards the sky and dreamed about being up there.
